Weekend Warriors

Our family is known to our friends in St. Louis as the "Weekend Warriors". It means nothing to us to hop in a car Friday night, drive to some "destination", enjoy a wonderful Saturday with choice family and friends, and spend the night. Sunday morning we will attend a new church - same religion, mind you - but new church. And return home late Sunday night to begin a work week. I am proud to say that I always have our suitcases unpacked before we leave again the next weekend. Sometimes I am unpacking as I am packing, but that counts, right?! Well, Bill stepped it up to a whole new level this weekend when we travelled to his mom's house. We did the standard: leave on Friday, drive late, arrive at destination with sleeping kids. However, he spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday building a swingset for his mom's backyard. This was no REGULAR swingset, but what Luke described as a PLAYGROUND! Bill's mom arranged enough food for an army and there were 20 something people over as the swingset went from a bunch of bags of screws and 3 boxes of wood to what you see below. It is a fantastic play area and the kids already spent many hours enjoying it.

It was also Mother's Day. Spending the weekend with Bill's mom was especially meaningful as this is her first Mother's Day without Bill's dad. Since he passed away in September, there have been many "firsts" and she's still trying to get used to that. Although it made her sad to watch the swingset go up without Bill's dad there to help and enjoy it, we all believe he was proudly watching from above as it took shape, and then maybe shedding a tear of his own as his 4 grandkids got to play on it.

On a lighter note, Bill came home two days before Mother's day with a new lawnmower. Hmmm....

However, I didn't have to worry for too long. He bought me an awesome reclining chair for all my summer sunbathing ;) and a gift certificate for a massage. I can't wait to enjoy that while he's mowing the yard!!
