Sparkle, Lora's little kitten, has added a whole new dimension to our life. She is cute and cuddly, but boy does she know how to cause some problems!
Several weeks ago she escaped and got out the front door. No one really knows how it happened, just that around 5pm we realized we had not seen her all day. I went outside and called her name. I listened...I listened some more. "meeeeooow" "meeeooow" It was coming from somewhere high, somewhere very high. I looked around and fortunately for my eyesight, most of the leaves have dropped from the trees. I spotted her about 40 feet up in a tree just next to our house. I called her. I sang to her. I showed her treats. I bribed her. I yelled at her. I threw things at her. Nothing worked. So, I called the fire department. The idea that they rescue cats from trees - just a myth. They laughed. I called a friend who is cop in our area. He laughed. I called Bill and left him a message that it was an "emergency!" (truthfully, I also left him 3 text messages that it was an "emergency!") When he called back and heard that Sparkle was stuck in a tree I could hear the audible sigh of relief that was ALL that was wrong. After more coaxing, prodding, pleading, begging, yelling, Bill rigged up a loooong pole made out of trimwork shrinkwrapped together, end to end, to create a type of sword he could wave in the air. His goal was to have her gracefully step onto the trimwork as he heroically lowered her down to safety. After about 3 minutes he realized she would do nothing of the sort and he resorted to literally "batting" at her. He finally made the winning swing and she came tumbling down, hitting every branch, landing flat on her back (cats DO NOT always land on their feet) and subsequently jumped up and ran into the house. There went her 8.5 lives.
We thought that would be the end of her climbing, but nope...found her in the same tree (although only about 6 feet up) the next day. That was the same day I made the appointment to get her declawed.
We thought THAT would be the end of her climbing. Declaw the poor thing and she'll learn to stay on the ground. However, as you can see from the picture above, she found something even more entertaining to climb. And when we would attempt to "bat" her out of the Christmas tree, she would JUMP out, showering ornaments all throughout the room. Ahhh... how I love chaos!
