Christmas 2011 Part 3

Christmas morning my blessed beauties slept until 8am! They climbed in our bed and we read the story of Jesus' birth. This is our first year in a home that has two stories, so the kids then had to work on their patience by sitting at the top of the stairs.

"Santa" was a little worried about the mischievious oldest child in the family so he put red crepe paper back and forth over the top of the staircase with a sign that read "no peeking". The kids were allowed the tear the crepe paper before heading downstairs.

Several years ago we started the tradition of three gifts for each kid, just like the gifts the wise men brought to Jesus. Each kid gets something they "want", "need", and a "surprise". In addition, we stuff a few small trinkets in their stockings.

Lexi's want was a new baby, her need was a grocery cart for the kitchen and her surprise was a new dollhouse. The connect 4 travel game was in her stocking and it ended up being her favorite - she played it all morning!

Lora wanted a "sister" for Morgan so she received "Alina", Morgan's blond haired baby sister. Her need was a new camera and her suprise was a dollhouse!

Luke wanted the Heroica Lego game series. His need was a case for his mini helmet collection and his suprise was tickets to Legoland in Florida in March (for our family vacation!).

The center of attention was definitely the dollhouse. My grandpa built it for my mom and my parents refinished it for me. Bill and I spent countless hours remodeling it for the kids. Bill put in new carpet and hard wood and tiled the kitchen and bathroom. We painted all the rooms and I made curtains and matching pillows. We fixed and painted some old furniture and bought a few new pieces. Papa Melvin would be so happy watching his great-grandkids play with this!

Christmas morning was so nice and relaxing. We opened our gifts, played for a while, had a nice breakfast, and then headed to a wonderful church service. It was like a big party at church. What a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas morning - with a birthday party for Jesus!
