I never thought I would personally be starting a caringbridge site, but with friends and family spread throughout the United States, we want to share information as quickly as possible and covet so many prayers.
Here is the story regarding Logain's first 12 hours of life:
Friday, August 10, 2012 I went to my doctor's office for an ultrasound to check on growth. The amniotic fluid was low and he was not moving. I had not felt him move for almost 24 hours. Taking all this into account, my doctor sent me straight to labor and delivery. Bill was called from football practice and met me at the hospital. While waiting for him they hooked me up to a heart rate monitor that showed Logan's rate dipping to dangerously low rates and not rising. He was clearly distressed and they prepped for an emergency C-section. I was able to get a spinal epidural so I could see him when born. The neontal team was on standby. When he was born he had swallowed some meconium. When they suctioned that out they couln't get him to breath right away and needed to bag him and start compressions for almost a minute. When he began breathing he was put on oxygen because his oxygen saturation was very low. He was stabilized at Missouri Baptist, but they wanted to do some further testing on his heart, lungs, and abdomen so they decided to transfer him to Children's Hospital. Before he was taken by ambulance, they allowed me to hold him for about 3 minutes. He is one of the most precious things God has ever created.
Around 7pm I spoke with the NICU doctor at Children's. They were struggling to keep his oxygen saturation high enough and put him on a CPAP machine. He has pulmonary hytertension, which is the number one concern right now. His stomach was distended with extra urine, which was drained through the umbilical artery. His sugars were low as well. He had an echo which showed nothing structurally wrong with his heart, which is a huge blessing. But, the pulmonary hypertension is very concerning. His oxygen saturation is only remaining around an 88 percent.
I spoke with NICU again at 1am and the oxygen saturation was still hovering at high 70, low 80 so they intubated him (put a breathing tube down his throat) at 9pm. This still wasn't raising the levels so they also sedated him to keep him calm.
We pray so much for wisdom for the doctors, for baby Logan's body to heal, for the nurses who are holding him when his mommy can't, for my body to heal quickly so I can go be with him, for the older three kids who are at Grandma and Grandpa's house, for Bill who will have to start school in a few days. We feel peace from God, but know that fear and uncertainty creeps in at all times, so I pray for new overwhelming stregnth from God to overcome those feelings of doubt.
Thank you so much for all those prayers...
Bill, Jen, Luke, Lora, Lexi, and sweet baby Logan
