Cast is off!! We went on Friday and it was rather traumatic. First of all, we went to the wrong office. Who knew that after 4 visits to an orthopedics office, they would then have you go to the satellite on the 5th visit? This made us a 1/2 hour late. The nurse sawed off the cast and Lora giggled, saying that it tickled! Then, she saw the pins. We didn't tell her she had pins in her arm because we knew she'd go ballistic. And she did. She wouldn't let anyone hold her. She wouldn't sit still for X-rays. She was just livid that there were these 2 inch THINGS sticking out of her elbow. I must admit they were pretty intimidating! The nurse finally got a decent x-ray an confirmed that the break has healed even more quickly than anticipated. Praise God for answered prayers! Then she said she would remove these "puppies". Even Lora could decipher what that meant! She started screaming and in walked THREE nurses to help hold her down. She actually didn't kick and squirm, but screamed pretty loudly! They pulled those two pins out right there in the office with Lora on my lap and a washcloth covering our clothes so that the blood didn't drip on us. Yes, I was traumatized too and not much bothers me. I DID take gross anatomy, but something after pulling metal things out of your baby's arm doesn't compare to cutting up dead strangers. Lora still wears a temporary cast with an ace wrap when "playing", i.e. wrestling with Luke. We celebrated with three full days at the pool! She is lacking some full flexion/extension in that elbow, but we'll hire a good PT to take care of that ;)
