Our most expensive child

Raising a child can be expensive. You have to buy diapers and food, clothes and shoes, toys and games. You enroll them in classes and take them to events. They play sports and dance. They need soccer shoes and ballet slippers. They grow and need new high chairs and car seats. There are doctor's appointments, antibiotics, co-pays, glasses, braces...
Who would have ever thought that a doll could be almost as expensive?
She needs matching shoes, a special hairbrush, an embroidered headband. She gets her own bed, her own stroller, her own HORSE!

This doll has her own snowshoes, her own sledding tube, her own underwear, swimsuit, beach towel, silly bands, earmuffs, gloves/scarf, and soccer cleats. So, why wouldn't she also visit the salon? She needs to get her hair washed, brushed, parted, braided, and tied with chosen hairbows. All for the low price of $20! I don't pay that much for MY haircuts!

The best part of this whole adventure, is that I have silently drug one of my best friends onto the ride with me! Amy got to bring her daughter, Haley, to pick out her first "doll" (although it is SO MUCH MORE than a doll!) over Christmas vacation. We met up with them for lunch in downtown Chicago (right before the above mentioned salon visit). Amy - God be with you...and your wallet.

Yes, raising a child is expensive. Raising a doll is a small fortune.

  1. maybe start getting Lexi to be more interested in cars and micro machines instead of dolls?!!! Maybe she'll think she's a boy and you can get her matchbox cars instead when she's that age...but those matching outfits Laura and the doll have are sooooo cute!

  2. Luckily we're easily pleased with knockoff accessories from superstores. Both my American Girls are going to learn to live on a budget. :)
