Goodbye Uncle Rich

My Uncle Rich is my mom's oldest (and only) brother. He was a missionary in Africa on the Ivory Coast for 10-15 years. When my grandma got older he moved home to help take care of her almost 9 years ago. She passed away in January and he has now decided to go back to the missionary field. He is leaving for Niger, Africa on Thursday. We are going to miss him so much. He lives less than 3 miles away from my parents and we saw him every weekend we went home to visit. This past weekend we, along with my cousins and aunt/uncle from Texas, said goodbye to him. During the weekend, we had some awesome eating, some intense games of Balderdash ("snurge" anyone?!), some fishing and shooting, and even an African birthday cake. He will be landing in Africa ON his birthday, so we celebrated early! Even though it's so sad to say goodbye, we are so proud of him and it was awesome to spend a weekend with some extended family.

In addition, we were highly entertained by my cousin Evan and his new wife, Tobi. They are both extremely smart, talented, important people in the political world (both lawyers!) and we befriend them not only because we love them and they are our relatives, but because if we ever get in trouble, they can "help" us out!! ;) Tobi is President Bush's personal lawyer and sees him daily, often having lunch with him and Laura Bush. We were entertained with her stories and even more impressed when she received a phone call from his press secretary at my parent's house!! My dad was hoping President Bush would call so we could all say "hi" in the background!! Such rednecks.... ;)
