It was a quiet morning in December when my phone rang. I answered and the voice on the other end introduced herself as someone with Children's Hospital. I assumed it was either an appointment reminder for Logan or a bill collector. She immediately launched into her speech and it became quite evident that she was neither of the above. She was offering Logan a CHRISTMAS TREE! Apparently there is a fundraiser for Children's Hospital every year around Christmas time. Many Christmas items are auctioned off. However, part of the decor and mystique are 20+trees that are decorated by "sponsors" in honor of a former patient from Children's Hospital. I was shocked and honored that my little Logan was going to get his own tree!
The morning of the event we got up bright and early, dressed in our "fancys" and headed downtown. The kids got to experience valet parking (Lexi wanted to know why that man was taking our car!) and a gourmet breakfast. The highlight, however, was "the tree". The Hanson family sponsored and decorated our tree in honor of their son, who was hospitalized for an extended amount of time with a heart condition. Not only was the tree beautiful, but it was full of ornaments especially for Logan. There were personalized ornaments, ornaments with the whole family, and little trains and baseballs. There were also presents under the tree. Many were for Logan, but Luke, Lora, and Lexi also opened several presents each.
After the "oohing" and "ahhing" over our tree, we walked around and enjoyed the creativity and beauty of the other trees. We also listened to the Variety Club Children's Choir and enjoyed some laughs at the photo booth. And three days later, two very nice gentlemen showed up and delivered the tree to our house for us to enjoy all season long...and many years to come.
We are constantly reminded of how good our God is and how many beautiful things have entered our life because of Logan. What a blessing.
