Lexi Hannah Bensinger

On November 16, Bill drove me to Missouri Baptist at 7am. I registered and was admitted. At 9am the nurses began administering ptosin to induce labor. Contractions immediately started at 2 minutes apart. The nurses (and I!) were ecstatic that labor would be quick and easy. By noon, I had not made one ounce of progression. I was still dilated at 1cm and 75% effaced....same as I was 3 weeks prior! The contractions continued at 2 minutes apart, and strong! At 1pm, the nurses called my doc, who suggested breaking my water to speed things up. At the mention of this I wanted my epidural before anyone started breaking ANYTHING! I got the epidural a few minutes after 1 and the doc broke my water around 1:15. At 7pm....I had still not made one ounce of progression. In the meantime, I was throwing up, being moved to various positions to help Lexi along, and completely miserable. At 8pm I FINALLY dilated to a 5, but nothing close to delivery so I sent Bill down to the cafeteria for dinner. At 8:20 I called the nurse telling her I needed to push. Within the 20 minutes Bill was gone I had dilated to a 10 and was ready to deliver. She called Doc Applebaum who got there at 8:56 and Lexi was born at 9:04pm! After 12 hours of NOTHING, she popped out in 2 pushes! And she was soo worth the wait! She weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces and was 21 inches long. I could tell from the first minute that she was gorgeous, with lots of hair and features very similiar to Luke and Lora.
She did swallow some fluid on her way out and the resident pediatrician suctioned her out for about 45 minutes. I got to hold her immediately but when they took her to get weighed and foot printed, they rolled my bed over by her little bed so I could hold her hand while they got the junk out of her lungs. After that she had her bath and then immediately began eating.
Even though she's my third, the miracle of childbirth will never cease to amaze me. God is soo good. After watching this amazing, beautiful, perfect little girl emerge from MY stomach, I once again am amazed at the complexity and ingenuity and beauty of God's creation.
