Route 66 Half IronMan

After training for over a year, the day was finally here to swim 1.2 miles, bike 56, and run 13.1 miles. There was some wind in the morning and the open swim was a little daunting. Fortunately it calmed a little and the swim wasn't horrible.  However, it started raining during the bike ride. After the rain it was so humid and hot and muggy that the run was treacherous! Mom, Dad, Bill, Luke, Lora, and Lexi all came to watch me.  I knew there was a change that Laura would bring her kids to watch at the finish line. However, Ted and his family surprised me by showing up at the end of the run. I was so surprised, excited, and blessed to have my whole family there that I was crying when I finally crossed that last bridge to see the finish line.  And Dad ran a little with me...just months after double knee replacement.  It was a hard journey, but I'm glad I did it and glad to cross it off my bucket list!!
